Decide what the reader should see first
A merged PDF is useful when someone asks for one attachment containing several documents. Start with the recipient’s instructions. For a job application, that might mean a cover letter first, a CV second, and supporting documents last. For a project handover, it might mean a short overview followed by the detailed reports.
Check each source PDF before adding it. Remove unrelated documents from your working folder and give the files recognisable names. A name like 01-cover-letter.pdf is easier to identify in a list than scan-final-new2.pdf. Keep the originals in case you need to rebuild the combined document.
Arrange the files before merging
Open PDF Merge and add at least two PDFs. Use the up and down controls to change their order, and remove any file you added by mistake. The tool appends every page from each file in the order shown. It rearranges whole files, not individual pages inside them.
If you only need selected pages from one document, use PDF Split to prepare that smaller document first. Add the prepared file to your merge list. This is especially useful when a long report contains only one relevant certificate or supporting page.
Check more than the first page
After merging, download and open the result. Compare its page count with the source documents. If the originals contain 1, 2, and 3 pages, the combined file should contain 6. Check the transition between files, page orientation, and whether the last page is present.
Merging does not rewrite text, correct spelling, or make scanned pages searchable. It also does not promise a smaller file. If the recipient has an attachment size limit, compare that limit with the downloaded file before sending. Reducing source scan sizes may be necessary.
When a document will not merge
Password-protected or damaged PDFs can fail to load. Open the source in a trusted PDF reader to confirm that it works. If you are authorised to access a protected document, obtain an unlocked copy from its owner. Do not use a merge workflow to bypass access restrictions.
Be particularly careful with digitally signed documents: creating a new combined file may not preserve the signature’s validity. If the recipient needs the original signed files, send those in the requested way. VVentures PDF Merge works on your device, but you should still check that your organisation permits processing its documents with this tool.
